Avoiding the Practice of Idolatry and Adultery
Avoiding the Practice of Idolatry and Adultery
Positive Christianity Series Episode #173
Solomon helps us understand the importance of worshiping GOD Almighty above everything in the Proverbs. We understand the importance of correction and reproof describing how we can not practice sin, idolatry, negative emotions, and adultery. We can persevere practicing righteousness and fidelity to GOD Almighty that allows us to increase in virtues and remove vices from our lives. We can persevere knowing that we can keep developing wisdom in obedience to the commandments of Moses avoiding idolatry that can be idol worship or self-worship and avoid the practice of lust and adultery that wants to lead to the road of destruction in the practice of vices. We learn that the serpent does not say that idol worship and adultery wants to lead to destruction from the very beginning. That would be the truth. Instead the serpent tries to deceive with temporary lies stating that idol worship and adultery can help when it does not help.
We can not reject correction and reproof from the Sacred Scriptures knowing that we can persevere in the path of eternal salvation without practicing idol worship nor adultery. We do not have to practice sin, iniquity, idol worship, and vices that lead to destruction. Solomon was able to ask for wisdom and was able to understand the importance of obeying the commandments of Moses. We learn that the Proverbs describe that we are supposed to accept correction and persevere without practicing idol worship and adultery. We learn that Moses also instructed the need in the commandments to not partake in idol worship and adultery. Moses, Joshua, and the righteous of Israel were able to deny temptation in rejecting the practice of idol worship and adultery by Balaam. We learn that Balaam and the wicked who practiced idol worship and adultery were destroyed.
"My son, do not lose sight of these-keep sound wisdom and discretion, and they will be life to your soul and grace to your neck. Then you will walk in the path securely, and your foot will not stumble. If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet."- Proverbs 3: 21-24
We are given counsel and correction in the Sacred Scriptures so that we do not walk in the road of perdition. Instead we can persevere with sound wisdom and insight knowing that obeying the commandments of Moses is life. We are able to persevere knowing that we are in the path of life and have wisdom to know the things that help us from the things that do not try to help us. We are guarded by GOD Almighty knowing that obedience to the commandments of Moses is protection against the temporary lies of sin, negative emotions that the snake tries to cause, and being in the road of destruction by not practicing sin. We learn that we are guarded by GOD Almighty described in David's Psalm 91. We are able to keep worshiping GOD Almighty with sincerity of heart above everything.
We learn that wisdom prevents us from practicing folly. We know that we have insight and counsel to persevere obeying the commandments of Moses and forsaking sin and idol worship. We learn that obeying the commandments of Moses is sound wisdom and discretion because we develop virtues including the most important virtue of all, fidelity, to GOD Almighty. We learn that fidelity to GOD Almighty helps us develop wisdom, zeal, responsibility, discipline, motivation, courage, and humility. We learn that there are additional virtues that are developed in obedience to the worship of GOD Almighty and removing sin and vices. We have a light and a shield that helps us persevere in the times that we are living in. We can remind ourselves that adultery tries to lead to idol worship and idol worship tries to lead to adultery. We know that we can not practice adultery knowing that it leads to bitterness, envy, resentments, hate, anger, and coveting. We learn that there are righteous individuals that were able to say no to the temporary lies of evil. We learn that Moses, Joshua, and the righteous of Israel said no to the temptations to practice adultery and idol worship by Balaam and Balaak. This is because we know that idol worship and adultery does not help and leads to destruction while obedience to the commandments of Moses and fidelity to GOD Almighty leads to salvation and blessings.
"For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the path of life, to preserve you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the adultress. Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes."- Proverbs 6: 23-25
