Favor and Blessings in the Worship of GOD Almighty
Positive Christianity Series Episode #304
GOD Almighty tells us to persevere in the fear of the LORD being far apart from the practice of foolishness, sin, and idol worship. Abijah was able to persevere with bravery despite being surrounded by Jeroboam's army of 800,000 idolatrous soldiers. Instead of having fear, Abijah decided to trust in GOD Almighty who was Abijah's strength.
"In the fear of the LORD one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge."- Proverbs 14: 26
Abijah has confidence because he trusts in GOD Almighty and not in his might. Abijah had accepted correction and reproof after seeing that Rehoboam had difficulties for practicing idol worship and forsaking the obedience to the commandments of Moses. Abijah also describes that Rehoboam was irresolute when he was practicing idolatry, yet Abijah became mighty in the worship of GOD Almighty. Although Jeroboam had a larger army and more resources, Abijah prospered and defeated Jeroboam by trusting in the Eternal and Infinite GOD of gods. GOD Almighty defeated Jeroboam's army.
"Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident."- Psalm 27: 3
Abijah similar to David was encouraged in the worship of GOD Almighty. Abijah had seen that idol worship had not helped Rehoboam and only caused him difficulties. Abijah trusts in GOD Almighty despite circumstances and conquers through the worship of GOD Almighty. Despite being outnumbered, Abijah has courage and trusts in GOD Almighty similar to David in Psalm 27: 3. We learn that David perseveres through much adversity yet kept fidelity to GOD Almighty above the temporary things of this imperfect world. GOD Almighty did not forsake David nor Abijah.
Abijah is able to defeat Jeroboam in the worship and obedience to GOD Almighty. Abijah is able to prosper, and Asaph reigns in his place. Abijah was able to remind the snake the truth of Scripture. While the snake probably told him that Jeroboam had a larger army and was going to defeat Abijah easily, it was actually Abijah who conquered the snake and Jeroboam by worshiping GOD Almighty. Scripture tells us that we conquer by accepting and confessing King Jesus Christ Eternal LORD and Savior. Abijah instead of listening to the discouragements of the snake decided to speak truth to the temporary lies. Abijah saw a larger army, yet spoke truth from Scripture. Abijah told Jeroboam that he had forsaken the Living Almighty GOD of gods for two golden calves. Abijah described that the righteous worshiped GOD Almighty day and night while Jeroboam was practicing idol worship and deceit. Abijah describes Jeroboam's foolishness while being surrounded by 800,000 idolatrous soldiers and did not fear. Despite having a smaller army, Abijah perseveres with bravery and courage extolling GOD Almighty (Psalm 96: 5).
"Ought you not to know that the LORD GOD of Israel gave the kingship over Israel forever to David and his sons by a covenant of salt. Yet, Jeroboam the son of Nebat, a servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord, and certain worthless scoundrels gathered about him and defied Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and irresolute and could not withstand them."- 2 Chronicle 13: 5-7
"And now you think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David, because you have a great multitude and have with you the golden calves that Jeroboam made you for gods."- 2 Chronicles 13: 8
