Favor and Blessings in the Worship of GOD Almighty
Positive Christianity Series Episode #305
Abijah was able to confront Jeroboam by speaking truth and deciding to persevere worshiping GOD Almighty. Despite having a smaller army and being outnumbered by Jeroboam, Abijah is able to keep zealous faith and trust in GOD Almighty. We learn that while Jeroboam had instructed the false religion of the worship of the two calves that is foolishness and idolatry, Abijah had kept fidelity to GOD Almighty. Abijah accepted correction from GOD Almighty seeing that Rehoboam was not improved in the practice of idol worship. Abijah had decided to keep fidelity to GOD Almighty and even took in the priests of Levi from the north who were probably beginning to be persecuted by Jeroboam. The righteous priests of Levi and other individuals from other tribes from Israel left Israel to go with Abijah because they did not want to practice idolatry. The Levite priests and righteous individuals had left Jeroboam due to the golden calves (2 Chronicles 13: 9-10).
"We have priests ministering to the LORD who are sons of Aaron, and Levites for their service. They offer to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt offerings and incense of sweet spices, set out the showbread on the table of pure gold, and care for the golden lampstand that its lamps may burn every evening. For we keep the charge of the LORD our GOD, but you have forsaken him."- 2 Chronicles 13: 10-11
In the times of Abijah, the first temple was important because it reminded individuals that GOD Almighty was very present in their lives. GOD Almighty does not reside in temples, yet instructed the first temple construction to Solomon to describe that GOD Almighty is very present in our day to day lives. Abijah obeyed GOD Almighty similar to David having righteous priests ministering to the LORD GOD Almighty day and night every single day. The priests were from the tribe of Levi and in obedience to GOD Almighty's words. Jeroboam was probably beginning to persecute the Levi priests who took refuge in Judah with Abijah. Jeroboam made his own counterfeit priests who worshiped idols, were not Levites, and instructed foolishness that is idol worship.
"Behold, GOD is with us at our head, and his priests with their battletrumpets to sound the call to battle against you. O sons of Israel, do not fight against the LORD, the GOD of your fathers, for you can not succeed."- 2 Chronicles 13: 12
Abijah acknowledged that GOD Almighty was with him and did not forsake him. The priests sang songs of worship while Abijah worshiped GOD Almighty and spoke truth. While being outnumbered 800,000 against 400,000, Abijah is brave and bold. Abijah does not fear Jeroboam's threats and foolishness. While being surrounded by 800,000 idolatrous soldiers, Abijah maintains his position, reproves Jeroboam for being idolatrous and forsaking the true faith in GOD Almighty, and tells him that he can not succeed.
Jeroboam decides to send an ambush to attack Abijah and his soldiers from behind and before him, yet GOD Almighty destroyed Jeroboam's army. Abijah defeated Jeroboam by trusting in the Creator and LORD of lords. Similar to David, Abijah did not get discouraged by Jeroboam's intimidations and harrassment and instead trusted in GOD Almighty. Abijah did not trust in his might and instead had wisdom to trust in GOD Almighty. We conquer by accepting and confessing King Jesus Christ Eternal LORD and Savior.
"I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer."- Psalm 18: 1-2
